DRAINAGE OF ANAL GLANDS
Cats and dogs, and even ferrets, have two anal glands on both sides of the anus. These 2 glands contain a liquid with a nauseating odor.
This fluid, which normally evacuates naturally during defecation, is a means of communication for the animal; a way to mark your territory. These glands can also be drained by stress.
That said, it is possible that these glands do not evacuate naturally. There is then a serious risk of inflammation.
If the liquid in the glands does not drain naturally, the dog or cat can be brought to do what is called the “sled”: it rubs the buttocks against the ground while advancing.
If your pet demonstrates this type of behavior, make an appointment without delay to avoid any risk of infection and relieve your pet.
